At KD Ed, we believe in the power of public education to create local solutions and affect global change. We believe in the potential of our students and in the resiliency of our educators. And we believe that students and teachers do their best work in safe and supportive environments. That’s why we’re on a mission to help schools implement social and emotional learning (SEL) and trauma-informed practices that promote all aspects of literacy and transform student development and teacher retention. Over the course of the last few years, the world has watched lingering issues in American public schools reach crisis level in real time. From tragic acts of violence and glaring gaps in student achievement to unprecedented levels of teacher burnout and resignation, today’s educators have been called on to do more with less (and to do it right now). And while education has long been seen as the great equalizer, recent events have made it abundantly clear that some students just don’t have access to the resources they need to succeed, either in school or in life.

Meeting the needs of our most vulnerable students is not easy; it requires a paradigm shift in the way we think about education. This shift starts with recognizing that every student comes to us with a unique set of experiences, skills, and challenges. And it ends with educators who are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to create equitable learning environments where everyone can thrive.
